Root canal disease happens when the pulpy tissue in the tooth becomes damaged. This can be due to periodontal disease, extensive dental procedures or injury such as a blow to the mouth. When this tissue becomes damaged, it must be removed, the area disinfected, filled and sealed. The tooth can then remain and be used normally.

Severe tooth decay is one thing that can easily lead to root canal disease. The decay, laden with billions of bacteria, gradually forces its way into the pulpal area of the tooth. This may cause much pain, but in some cases, no pain at all is felt. When a tooth is injured due to a blow, it can cause trauma to the pulpal area because the blood supply is affected. In some cases the tooth needs to be removed completely.

WHAT IS PEYRONIE’S DISEASE?

Peyronie’s disease consists of hard, fibrous tissue, called plaques, developing within the penile shaft. The plaques are hard, thickened and stiff areas, actually a kind of internal scarring. In this fibroid tissue also calcium compounds can accumulate, making the plaques even harder.

The Peyronie’s disease is also called cavernositis, and also sometimes plastic induration. There is probably a chronic inflammation process that leads to this scarring.

The thickened area has less blood flow than normal penile tissue, and do not fill with blood and swell as the normal spongy areas in the inside of the penis. Therefore the penis swells more at the opposite side, and gets a curvature towards the side containing the plaques when erected.

Impotence is the inability to obtain and maintain an erection of the penis, which is necessary to penetrate the vagina during sexual intercourse.

Internal spaces in the penis (called corpora cavernosa) normally fill with blood during sexual excitement and cause the penis to become rigid and erect. Impotence is a partial or total impairment of this function. There are two types of impotence. Primary impotence is when a man is never able to have an erection adequate for sexual intercourse to the satisfaction of both partners. Secondary impotence is the more common type.
